Today I had the pleasure of talking to someone who works for City Dog Magazine, which bills itself as "the definitive dog lover's magazine about life and living with dogs in the West -- Seattle, Portland, San Francisco -- and everywhere in between." The magazine posts information about dog-related activities on their events calendar. If you're on the West coast and are planning a fundraiser, this is a great PR opportunity for you. You can send information for any events occurring between mid-April and the end of June 2009 that you would like to see included in the CityDog Social Calendar, both in the magazine and on the web site. You can check out the events page here for contact information:
http://www.citydogmagazine.com/html/events.html.

City Dog is just one of many Web sites, magazines, and other media you can contact about your events. Make sure that one of your volunteers is assigned to public relations activities. Many rescue groups that struggle to make money at events simply didn't do enough to get the word out. The media needs news every single day, so you aren't "bothering" them, you are doing them a favor by letting them know what's happening. So give them what they want: information about your cool fundraiser for their events listings!

Our next teleseminar is next Tuesday March 17 at 1 pm with Krista Cantrell. The title is "Easy Ways to Decrease Stress in Shelter Dogs." Reducing canine stress is key in getting dogs to relax, respond, and accept new people and places. In just five minutes a day you can relieve tension, improve health, stimulate thinking, decrease behavior problems (without force or stress), and create a happy dog. Changing a dog's behavior by effectively using your voice, hands, and attitude can create calming behavior signals that take the frustration out of shelter dog training. Stories, practical examples, and exercises will be shared during this informative interview. You can read more about Krista at her Web site at http://www.kristacantrell.com/

I'll be sending call-in information next week to the newsletter recipients, so please watch your in box. If you don’t yet receive the newsletter, you can sign up for a free “Helping Paw” membership here: http://www.naprp.com/.
