Care2, the largest social activist and green living site is partnering with with 1-800-Save-a-Pet to sponsor America's Favorite Animal Shelter Contest. People across the country can vote for their favorite shelter online, and the winning shelter gets a grand prize of $10,000. In addition, there are weekly prizes of $1,000 given at random so that any shelter has a chance to win.

The contest runs from September 22, 2008 through November 1, 2008 on Care2.com’s Web site. Anyone can simply go to http://www.care2.com/animalsheltercontest and vote for their favorite shelter or rescue group. The shelter or group that receives the most votes nationwide wins the grand prize of $10,000.

Additionally, Care2 is giving away a total of $5,000 to the next four groups with the highest votes. And Adopt-a-Pet.com is awarding prizes of $1,000 at random each week during the contest period to ensure every shelter and rescue group has a chance to win, which gives each shelter another opportunity to support its causes.
