Before I forget, I want to point out a date change for our next teleseminar. Because of a conflict, our guest Deborah Howard had to change the date to next TUESDAY July 14 at 1 pm Pacific. Here's the description:

Get Puppy Mills & Pet Shops Out of Your Neighborhood
Anyone who works at a shelter or rescue finds out quickly when there's a puppy mill or sleazy pet store in the area. But what can you do? Deborah Howard from the Companion Animal Protection Society (CAPS) will be on hand to talk about grassroots efforts you can take when you have a puppy mill or a pet store selling puppy mill puppies in your neighborhood. Since 1992, CAPS has worked with animal welfare groups and the public to investigate pet shops and puppy mills to get them shut down.

In last week's post, I said I'd talk a bit about fundraising planning and delegation this week. Those are big topics, so I'll write much more in future newsletters, but for now, here's a quick snippet from my book Funds to the Rescue about planning. (I just discovered today that the book is already available on Amazon.com!)

"The first step is to set up a fundraising calendar. Make a list of all your proposed fundraising activities and then share it with your volunteers. Each activity will require its own plan. Additionally, many communities have events calendars that are printed far in advance, so you want to make sure your events are on them.

Planning ahead is vital to your organization and your sanity. I recommend that you place all your big in-person events on the calendar first. Make sure they don't conflict with other events in your community and that you can get space at the venue you want."
