Susan Daffron talks to Christina Nestor from Mike's Dog House about a dog named Duchess who is available for adoption. Mike's Dog House is a rescue in Florida that specializes in saving "bully breed" dogs, which may include American Bulldogs, Old English Bulldogs, Staffordshire Terriers, American Pit Bull Terriers, Bull Terriers, American Staffordshires, and others. Duchess is a 4 or 5-year old female pit bull who is a pretty "reverse" blue brindle color. She is a one of the stocky "low rider" type pit bulls and weighs in at about 50 pounds.

This week, I had a few emails from people who were confused about the date of the teleseminar with Jessica Stout about how to use social media to promote your organization. It is on Tuesday, September 29th at 1 pm (Pacific time) and we'll send the call-in information to you on Monday, so it will be right at the top of your email in box.
I've been thinking a lot about marketing, PR, and fundraising lately, and one thing that seems to come up repeatedly is the need to be interesting. Many of us tend to worry about "what other people think" so we hold back our creativity.

Today I'm feeling rather under the weather, so this post will be a bit shorter than usual. I think the toll of many vet trips and many houseguests contributed to me getting a cold. My husband is sick too. I can hear him over there in his office blowing his nose. (Oh how romantic!)
In better news, this week we have been busily lining up our next group of expert teleseminars. Although the Web site isn't updated with the details yet, the next teleseminar will be on September 29th at 1 pm Pacific time. I'll be interviewing Jessica Stout, the founder of www.AnimalAdvocating.com about how you can take advantage of social media (i.e. sites like Facebook, Twitter, and You Tube) to promote your organization and your message.

Susan Daffron talks to Barbara Masi from the Florida Chapter of Greyhound Pets of America, which is the largest single breed adoption group in the world. The organization is dedicated to finding homes for racing greyhounds that have retired from the track. Slammer is a six-year old male dog who raced under the name MPS Goldfinger.

This week, I'd like to thank everyone who sent in good wishes and healing thoughts for my little black dog who had surgery last Friday. (For those who missed it, Leia is the black dog smiling at you when you visit the NAPRP Web site.) The surgery went well and she's healing nicely. Probably the worst thing is that she's been wearing an e-collar and marching around bumping people with it. ("So Leia...how do you REALLY feel about that e-collar?!") The bad news is that her lump is cancer. But Leia is the happiest, perkiest sick dog you've ever seen, so we're certainly not worrying about her quality of life yet!

Susan Daffron talks to Pauline Davis from the Murray County Animal Shelter in Georgia about a nine-year old spayed, female cat named China. This beautiful black long-haired kitty was dropped off at the animal shelter when her owner had a baby. Because she is declawed, China needs an indoor-only home. Although she gets along well with other cats, China likes her space, so she'd probably be happiest if she's the only cat in the household.

This week has included a number of trips to town to the vet because my dog Leia is having surgery tomorrow. (She is the black dog smiling at you when you visit the NAPRP Web site.) Leia has a lump on her front leg that needs to be removed. Her bloodwork wasn't great and she's 13, so I'm a bit worried about her.
Anyway, because of the various issues going on this week, I didn't get a chance to write back and personally thank those people who responded to my question in last week's post about how you communicate.

Today I had an opportunity to do what I know many of you do every day. I was asked to see if I could find a rescue contact in Southern Idaho who could help pull some dogs in need out of a shelter. Even though I'm in Northern Idaho (about 450 miles away), I did know someone who used to live in the area and that person knew someone else. In the end, I think it will all work out well for the dogs. It got me thinking about how people in rescue communicate.
